Review

Universal Maps Downloader is a small application that helps you to download small tile images from the popular, Google maps, Yahoo maps or Microsoft maps. The downloaded images can only be viewed by the "Maps Viewer", included with the program itself. There is also an option to combine the images into a big BMP image by "Maps Combiner".

Well, the program is quite difficult to use. We need to find the location of the place whose map is to be downloaded. We need to specify the Left Longitude, Right Longitude, Top Latitude, Bottom Latitude, and also the zoom level. Well, what you need to do is, run the original Google Maps or Yahoo Maps and find the place, and hence the zoom level and the latitudes and longitudes. Now, use it on the program. Here we need to create a new task for downloading the maps, and then select the appropriate path to save it.

We cannot preview the maps. This is just a small VB application. A log window on the right shows the progress of the operation we have instructed the program to do.

We can use the proxy settings also, if we need to.

Now, for 59.95$, I would recommend that you use the Google maps and take only the screenshots, if you don’t need to combine the maps.

The developer has version 3.8. This review and screenshots belong to version 3.3.
